Walkway for lovers coming to Bund
A 2,600-square-meter waterfront platform will feature in the rebuilt Bund area next March, offering an ideal dating place for young lovers.
The platform, in the Huangpu Park Square, is being called the Beijing Road Grand Platform for now. Its official name hasn't been decided, said Cao Yongguo, an official with the Huangpu District's construction and transport department.
He said the platform will be built as relaxation place, especially for young lovers who want to find a romantic place for dating. It is destined to be one of the best places to enjoy the scenery along both sides of the Huangpu River.
After the renovation, the widest breadth of the platform will be almost 40 meters - 23 meters wider than the original sightseeing platform on the Bund. It will be 92 meters long, Cao said.
Construction of Huangpu Park Square is almost complete.
There will be three additional theme squares in the Bund area, all connected by walkways, the riverside promenade and large areas of greenery. The three are Chenyi Square, Financial Square and Observatory Square.
The whole Bund will be fully open to the public and traffic by the end of March, officials said.
The Bund area can hold 300,000 people a day, according to records of past crowd volume. If the numbers reach the peak of 800,000, measures to limit visitors will be taken, including closing the waterfront platform, said Han Jinhua, deputy general manager of Shanghai Chengtou Corp, a state-owned company in charge of the project.
