Warm and dry today, but the cold will be back tomorrow

AFTER yesterday’s drizzles, today will be mostly dry and cloudy, with temperatures ranging from 3 to 7 degrees Celsius, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.

The warmer weather will be only temporary, however, as the mercury is set to drop to a low of minus 2 degrees tomorrow. The day should still be quite bright, but there is the possibility of some ice, the bureau said.

From Friday onward, the highs are set to return to the low teens, while the weekend is expected to be mainly cloudy and overcast.

The arrival of sleet and ice in some parts of the city yesterday evening caused problems for commuters.

Several people were reported to have fallen off their bikes after hitting icy patches, while the chilly downpour caught many people off guard and left them huddling at the exits to Metro stations.

After several days of pollution, the air quality in Shanghai improved considerably yesterday and should remain sound today. The air quality index was just 46 at 8pm yesterday, while the PM2.5 density was a very low 15.8 micrograms per cubic meter.
