Warm and wet, but too early for plum rains
WARM and humid days are in the forecast this week, but plum rain season is not here yet, according to forecasters.
Fog is set to envelop the skies this morning. The high temperature will reach 29 degrees Celsius and the low will drop to 20 degrees, according to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
Tomorrow, an expected collision of warm and cold fronts will bring rain and mild temperatures to the city.
Intermittent downpours are expected for tomorrow and Wednesday. The mercury will fall to 26 degrees tomorrow and 24 degrees on Wednesday. Thursday’s forecast includes overcast to cloudy skies and warmer weather with the arrival of air from the northwest. Temperatures between 18 and 28 degrees are expected. The high could also reach 28 degrees on Friday.
Despite the warm and humid conditions, Shanghai hasn’t entered plum rain season. Its arrival is determined by average temperature readings and rainfall levels, forecasters said.
According to records from the Xujiahui weather station, plum rain season usually starts on June 17. The earliest recorded plum rain season started on May 22 in 1936.
