Warm days forecast till Saturday

THE temperature is expected to rise gradually until Saturday before dropping quickly, weather forecasters said yesterday.

Cloudy and overcast weather is likely for the rest of the week while the mercury will rise to 26 degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.

A cold front is forecast to arrive Saturday night and the mercury will drop to a high of 21 degrees on Sunday. The bureau said the air will be slightly polluted on Sunday morning due to the cold front. It will be even cooler on Monday.

Today's forecast calls for drizzle with the temperature hitting a high of 23 degrees.

Thousands of migratory birds were seen on Chongming Island as they arrive in Shanghai earlier than usual because of cold weather in the north, experts said.

Meanwhile, more than 26,000 tons of hyacinth and 153,000 tons of duckweed were removed from the Huangpu River this year as of last month.
