Warmer spring weather begins today
TODAY is likely to be the first day of Shanghai spring, according to weathermen who predict an average temperature above 10 degrees Celsius for at least five consecutive days.
Spring is defined as five days running of warmer weather, above 10 degrees.
Today's temperature is expected to be between 6-17 degrees. It will rise to 19-20 degrees at the highest for the next to days and peak at around 22 degrees on Wednesday, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau reported today.
Rain is forecast for Thursday, with temperatures between 15-18 degrees. Yesterday's high, in Xujiahui area, was at 13.5 degrees, 3 degrees higher than the day before.
Spring has been arriving earlier in recent years because of global warming, weathermen say.
On average, spring falls on March 25 in Shanghai; last year it fell on March 15. The earliest spring, since record-keeping began, was on February 14, 1898.
