Warmer weather, but more damp days
The recent cold is expected to abate but damp conditions should return over the weekend and continue into early next week, with light rain lingering, forecasters said.
The morning chill yesterday pushed lows in most districts down as low as minus 3 degrees Celsius.
Suburban Chongming County recorded the lowest temperature at minus 4.3 degrees. The benchmark weather observatory in Xujiahui recorded a low of 1.3 degrees yesterday morning.
After a sunny day yesterday, more cloud was expected overnight, bringing the increased chance of rainfall today.
Lows are expected to bounce back into positive territory across the city. Over the weekend and Monday, the low is expected to be between 4 and 5 degrees.
High temperatures are expected to be around 8 degrees over the weekend.
But Monday’s high is forecast to drop to 6 degrees.
The mercury on Tuesday is predicted to drop slightly by 1 to 2 degrees, with a low of about 2 degrees and a high of around 5 degrees.
Shanghai recorded good air quality for the sixth day yesterday and perfect or good air quality is predicted for today.
PM10 particles were listed as the top pollutant at 4pm, with a concentration reading of 97.4 micrograms per cubic meter, more than 50 micrograms below the nation’s limit of 150.
The local environmental monitoring center forecast that today’s air quality index will range from 40 to 65, with the main pollutant being PM2.5 particles.
