Water pipe restored after flooding road

A water pipe burst on Zhongshan Road S. near Longhua Road W. yesterday afternoon, causing traffic jam for more than two hours. The road was flooded in water over 30 centimeters deep for more than 200 meters.
The pipe was repaired and water supply was restored last night and the pool of water drained away, Shanghai South Water Company said today.
The pipe, 50 centimeters in diameter, burst at about 5pm yesterday. Witnesses said a crack appeared on the road and water gushed through with big force, soon flooding the road.
Vehicles had to crawl in the water, turning rush hour traffic into a chaos. Several nearby roads, such as Tianyaoqiao Road, were affected.
Crew from the water company soon arrived and turned off the valve of the pipe. Initial investigation showed that the aging water pipe was crushed by heavy vehicles on the road.
