Weather forecast calls for cloudy, warm week

THE weekly forecast calls for mostly cloudy weather with rain arriving on Thursday, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said yesterday.
It will still be warm with a high of 30 degrees Celsius today but the temperature is expected to drop to between 24 and 27 degrees as the week progresses, the bureau said.
"The warmth of the weekend should continue on Monday and Tuesday while more clouds should accumulate Tuesday afternoon and bring down the mercury a little bit," said Kong Chunyan, a chief service officer of the bureau.
Kong added that it will rain on Thursday.
The city's average temperature has been above 22 degrees since Saturday, raising the possibility the city has entered summer.
The bureau declares the first day of summer after the average temperature remains above 22 degrees for five straight days. The first of those five days is then declared the first day of summer.
"So far the temperature is quite stable but we still need to wait a few days as the temperature on Wednesday will drop," Kong told Shanghai Daily.
'Moderate' air pollution
Meanwhile, the city's air pollution was "moderate" from Friday through yesterday, the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center said.
The Air Quality Index remained above 150 since Friday and reached 240 yesterday, the moderate pollution level. The chief pollutant was PM2.5.
Although the AQI dropped quickly yesterday afternoon it should rise again today due to smog, Kong said.
He added the pollutants will likely disperse this afternoon as the wind will blow from the southeast.
