Weather forecast to take chilly turn

A STRONG cold front is on the way and temperatures could drop by 13 degrees Celsius over the next two days, according to weather experts.

The lowest temperature was expected to average 6 degrees in the early hours of next Tuesday but could be as cold as 3 degrees in some suburban areas, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said yesterday.

Experts said it was rare for the city to have such cold weather at the start of November. Even frost is expected to appear in some parts, according to the bureau.

It said the cold front had originated in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and would affect most parts of the country in the next few days.

However, the cold spell is expected to be brief and the city should start become warmer by late Tuesday.

The bureau has forecast cloud and drizzle for today and tomorrow.

The maximum temperature expected today is 28 degrees and the minimum 14.

The bureau yesterday released October weather data.

Less rain fell in the month compared with those of previous years and the average temperature was higher by 2.4 degrees, according to information from the weather station in Xuhui District.
