Weather set to stay warm, but rain on cards

THE recent warm spell is set to continue, with the daily high temperature likely to be about 19 degrees Celsius for the rest of the week, forecasters said yesterday.

With the likelihood of showers from today through Saturday, and lows of no less than 14 degrees, conditions are also likely to be humid, the meteorological bureau told Shanghai Daily.

After several days of moderate air pollution, things are set to improve in that department too, with the air quality index expected to peak somewhere between 55 and 75 this afternoon.

Despite the heavy smog seen in northeast China’s Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces, the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center reiterated its statement that while there is the chance of slight pollution in the Yangtze River Delta region, Shanghai should mostly be unaffected for the time being.

Over the coming winter months, however, there is a chance that conditions could worsen as there is unlikely to be a lot of wind to disperse pollutants, the forecasters said.
