Weekend to wrap up extra well
THE city will turn icy from tomorrow through the weekend after a strong cold wave from the north sweeps in.
The minimum temperature downtown will drop to 5 to 4 degrees Celsius below zero tomorrow and Saturday, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.
In the suburbs, the minimum temperature for the two days will drop to between 9 and 7 degrees below zero, the bureau said.
Black ice will cover the road on the mornings of the two days, forecasters warned.
The high temperatures will drop from yesterday's 12 degrees to 1 degree tomorrow and Saturday. The mercury is expected to rise a little bit from Sunday.
In the city today there may be drizzle or rain and snow, and the wind is expected to reach 39 to 74 kilometers per hour downtown.
The sky is expected to clear from tomorrow. The sunny to cloudy weather will last to the beginning of the Spring Festival holiday which begins on Sunday.
