Wet Dragon Boat Festival forecasted
Heavy showers are expected during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday and are likely to relieve the city's worst drought in history, local weather authority said this afternoon.
With changes in atmospheric circulation, Shanghai will have rainy weather from Friday to Monday with more rainfall on Sunday and Monday, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
Shen Yu, the bureau's senior forecaster, said the protracted drought in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River is a result of the La Nina phenomenon which has caused lower temperatures in the seawater of the Pacific Ocean.
However, the rains during the three-day holiday would not change the drought situation in the lower reaches of the Yangtze, Shen added.
