Wet days return for week ahead

WET days will return today and should last all week under the influence of the plum rain season rain belt, forecasters said yesterday.

The air quality is expected to turn better today, reaching good to lightly polluted level in the morning and good in the afternoon, the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center said.

Yesterday was moderately polluted, with some monitoring stations, such as in Yangpu, Hongkou and Jing’an districts, reporting heavily polluted air.

With the strengthening of a subtropical anticyclone of the west Pacific Ocean and the rain belt moving northward, another round of rain is on the way, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau predicted.

Rainy weather should dominate the city’s sky this week, with the temperature ranging between 22 and 27 degrees Celsius, according to the bureau.

Drizzle is predicted today, with temperatures of between 23 and 27 degrees.

Moderate rain is expected tomorrow, and the highest temperature will drop 2 degrees, the bureau said.

Downpours are possible on Wednesday with a high of 27 degrees again, with the low at 22 degrees, according to the bureau.

Showers are also forecast for Thursday and Friday, with the weekend set to be overcast but dry.
