Wet, warm ... and winter鈥檚 on its way
THE wet and warm conditions witnessed in recent days are set to remain through the start of next week, forecasters said yesterday.
A southwesterly bank of warm air means the daily highs will stay in the low 20s until Monday, though there will also be plenty of drizzle, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.
Today will be mostly overcast with some light rain, while the mercury will range between 17 and 23 degrees Celsius through Saturday.
Sunday and Monday will be a few degrees colder, with the highs unlikely to surpass 19 degrees.
Sunday is also “Lidong,” the solar term, which traditionally marks the arrival of winter.
Man Liping, a chief service officer at the bureau, said, however, that the actual start will be determined — as always — by the city’s statisticians.
“Winter begins when the average temperature falls below 10 degrees for five days in a row,” he said.
“In the past decade, that date has ranged from November 13 to December 21,” he said.
