Wet weekend for Shanghai
THE year's eighth tropical storm is expected to hit Shanghai around the weekend.
Formed yesterday morning, Morakot, which means "turquoise" in Thai, was moving toward Zhejiang and Fujian provinces at 10 kilometers per hour and was growing stronger, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.
Under the influence of peripheral cloud systems, Shanghai will have rain and thunderstorms tomorrow and Friday. There will also be rain today under the influence of a stationary front.
The year's seventh tropical storm, Goni, which means "swan" in Korean, was heading for south China and will probably not affect Shanghai, forecasters said.
