Wet weekend in store, but sun to follow

LOCALS should keep an umbrella handy this weekend as the weather is set to be cold and wet, forecasters said yesterday.

Moderate to heavy showers, especially in southern parts of the city, are likely this afternoon and evening as a trough of low pressure moves east, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.

The mercury today will range from a low of 18 degrees Celsius to a high of 21 degrees  as a strong southeast wind arrives in the city.

Tomorrow is set to be overcast, though drizzle is also expected, and there will be more cloud cover in the evening.

Temperatures are likely to be between 18 and 20 degrees.

While showers are forecast for some parts of the city on Monday, the weather will be much warmer, with the high set to rise to 24 degrees.

The influence of dry northwest air will see skies turning cloudy on Tuesday and Wednesday but the sun will shine through.

The top temperature should soar to a scorching 28 degrees on Tuesday, while on Wednesday the mercury is expected to range between 18 and 28 degrees, the forecasters said.
