Winter returns, but only temporarily
DON'T put your winter clothing in storage just yet.
A strong cold front will be hitting the city today, pushing the mercury down to 2 degrees Celsius - and as low as minus 2 in some suburbs - by tomorrow.
Today is expected to be windy with a mixture of sun and clouds, and temperatures between 4 and 10 degrees Celsius, while tomorrow will see a high of 11 degrees.
The warm weather enjoyed over the weekend will return to the city from Wednesday, with the mercury climbing to 16 degrees, according to Shanghai Meteorological Bureau. Thursday will be mostly cloudy with temperatures between 9 and 21 degrees.
As for air quality, the moderately to lightly polluted conditions experienced yesterday will improve today, according to Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center. The air quality index is expected to fall to between 55 and 75 by this afternoon.
Yesterday evening the AQI reached 185, with PM2.5 being the major pollutant. The districts of Yangpu, Huangpu and Hongkou reported a PM2.5 density surpassing 150 micrograms per cubic meter, six times the level considered acceptable by the World Health Organization.
