Yan'an Road E. Tunnel reopens tomorrow after nine months' renovation
THE Yan’an Road E. Tunnel, one of the city’s busiest passages under the Huangpu River, will completely reopen to traffic from 1pm tomorrow, Shanghai Road Administration Bureau said today.
Bus lines rerouted because of the nine-month renovation project on the tunnel will switch back to the original routes since Saturday, the bureau said.
Work on the tunnel’s Pudong-to-Puxi section started in February this year and finished in mid-August, while the three-month work on the Puxi-to-Pudong section was completed in mid-December, slightly ahead of schedule.
Traffic from Pudong to Puxi has been suspended since the beginning of the project, but traffic in the other direction remains unaffected in the past 10 months.
Before renovation started in February, an estimated 90,000 vehicles per day traveled through it to get back and forth between Pudong and Puxi.
