Youth organizations open charity funding platform
THE Shanghai Committee of the China Communist Youth League and the Shanghai Youth Federation yesterday announced the launch of a new crowd-funding platform for charities.
“The platform will help not only to raise money for charity programs, but also generate ideas, and provide the materials, arenas, skills and staff they need,” said Shao Nan, a member of the standing committee of the youth federation.
“Many people are keen to help others but don’t know how to go about doing so,” he said.
“The platform, with assistance from the youth league and youth federation, will allow us to reach people and resources from across Shanghai and all around the country,” he said.
All charity programs can apply for help from the platform, but a selection panel will select only those “with the potential to have a great social influence,” he said.
In 2011, Shao set up a charity to provide financial support to young people from poor families seeking to go to university after leaving Huanren No. 1 Middle School in Liaoning Province.
Since its launch, the charity has provided more than 700,000 yuan (US$112,000) in financial aid to 80 students.
