10 years for man who tried to kill his girlfriend

A JEALOUS lover who attempted to kill his girlfriend has been jailed for 10 years, the Songjiang District People's Court said yesterday.
Wu Bin, 32, a Jiangsu Province native, had started a love affair with the woman, only identified by her surname, Shen, in 2007. He came to Shanghai to seek work after leaving his wife and children in his hometown, the court heard.
The couple moved in together but Wu began to suspect Shen was seeing other men.
On December 8 last year, Wu saw Shen talking to male colleagues after work. The two quarreled and Wu went out drinking alone.
When he got home he found Shen had locked him out and wouldn't answer the door, and he had to sleep outside.
The next morning, the couple argued again and Wu tried to strangle her with a piece of wire. As Shen struggled, Wu smashed a beer bottle on her head, the court heard.
Shen was taken to hospital where she survived in spite of serious injuries.
Wu, who thought he had killed his girlfriend, gave himself up to police.
