100 tots evacuated due to blaze

MORE than 100 pupils at a kindergarten in Jing’an District had to be evacuated yesterday when a fire broke out in a neighboring apartment building, xinmin.cn reported.
The blaze started about 11am and firefighters brought it under control about two hours later, the report said.
It gave few details about the damage caused by the fire, but said that no one was injured and that one of the walls of the Nanlin Kindergarten on Haining Road was blackened.
The three-story apartment block was home to five households, but was slated for demolition, the report said, adding that the family that lived in the unit in which the fire started was away at the time.
The children were taken to a nearby primary school and their parents were alerted to the incident, the report said.
A teacher from the kindergarten said the school will be closed until April 5 for cleaning. She was unable to say how badly the property had been damaged.
