11 women guilty of drug offenses
ELEVEN women were sentenced for drug-related crimes at the Jing’an District People’s Court in the first five months of the year.
Among them was 24-year-old Yan who was caught while selling 1.9 grams of methamphetamine to a customer for 1,000 yuan (US$160) in Putuo District in March of last year, the court said yesterday.
It did not give details of Yan’s sentence, but said she worked for a male boss, as did several of the other women convicted.
In a separate case, a 45-year-old unnamed woman was given a five-month detention for two counts of selling 0.15 grams of heroin.
The court showed the woman leniency as she provided information that led to the arrest of her male boss, surnamed Huang.
On a raid of his home, police found 10 grams of heroin and 0.8 grams of methamphetamine. He was later jailed for seven years.
The court said that most of the women sentenced were guilty of selling small amounts of drugs. The majority were first offenders and their average age was just under 42.
