13 sailors saved after ships crash
All 13 crew members aboard a Chinese cargo vessel were rescued in Shanghai after it collided with a Greek container ship in the Yangtze River estuary yesterday morning, maritime authorities said.
The Chinese freighter, measuring 99 meters long and 16 meters wide, collided with the larger ship about 6:20am en route from Ningbo City in Zhejiang Province to Lianyungang City in Jiangsu Province.
The freighter’s hull was damaged on its port side, the Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration said.
By 8:03am, all crew members were transferred from lifeboats to a patrol vessel. A salvage ship remained at the scene to guard the freighter.
