2 charged for selling fake drugs
TWO men have been charged with selling fake medicine online, the Jiading District People’s Procuratorate said yesterday.
The main suspect, surnamed Wang, 39, set up online stores from 2005 and from April last year started selling Japanese medical products, including eye drops, prosecutors said.
But they said he bought them illegally from China using online messenger applications QQ and WeChat.
Wang was not qualified to sell medical products and the Japanese products were not licensed in China nor declared through Customs.
Wang also recruited his cousin, whom prosecutors did not name, to help with packaging and delivery.
Police said the cousin admitted the online store was unlicensed and did not have the appropriate storage to maintain constant temperature and humidity.
The district market supervision and management bureau has seized 16 Japanese medical products from Wang’s store, which it says are adulterated.
Under the Chinese laws, medications that have not been approved by the China Food and Drug Administration or imported illegally are deemed fake.
