2 died, 2 injured in Chongming shipyard blast

TWO people died and two other were injured in a blast caused by an acetylene gas leak this morning in a shipyard on Chongming Island, officials said.
The accident happened at about 7:40am inside a plant of Huarun Dadong Dockyard Co Ltd, where sparks produced by a worker using a grinder ignited leaking flammable gas in a manufacturing workshop.
The gases, oxygen and acetylene for an acetylene torch, were left in the cabin of a ship in the workshop last night and leaked, according to a report on xinmin.cn.
Worker safety authorities are investigating the accident.
The report said the ship is being built for Girocantex Sociedad Anonima, a branch of Brazilian firm HDB (Hidrovias do Brasil) which signed a deal with Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co Ltd to buy 128 iron ore barges. The accident happened on one of the ships under construction. The shipyard is located on 1 Dadong Road on Chongming Island.
