2 fined for infringing rights of consumers
A Uniqlo store in Qingpu District and Shanghai-based e-commerce site yhd.com have been fined for infringing consumer rights, Shanghai’s market watchdog said yesterday.
The agency exposed 10 typical cases ahead of March 15 World Consumer Rights Day.
The Injoy Plaza outlet of Uniqlo was fined 5,000 yuan (US$735) for expanding the scope of goods that cannot be returned no questions asked, according to the Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Administrative Bureau.
Since late 2014, the outlet said leather belts, slippers, spectacles, and products packed in bags could not be returned by consumers, the Qingpu Market Supervision and Management Bureau found.
The stipulation was made by the outlet unilaterally, which violated contract regulations and was not reasonable nor fair on consumers and infringed consumer rights, the bureau said.
Yhd.com was fined 150,000 yuan for misleading consumers over the purifying effect and performances of water purifiers with false promotion, and “disrupting market order,” Pudong New Area Market Supervision and Management Bureau found.
The Changning outlet of Xibei Restaurant, a traditional northwestern cuisine restaurant, was also fined for using different versions of menus with different prices of some cuisines for lobby and private room diners, who were unaware of the price difference, according to the bureau.
The two price lists looked the same, the bureau added.
