2 held for targeting foreigners
Two men were detained by police for targeting foreigners at high-end hotels with illegal services.
One of them, surnamed Zhao, pretended to be a staff of some five or four-star hotel in Shanghai, and waited for foreigners checking out at the lobby.
Zhao would approach them and introduce them to another person, surnamed Li, who had a gray van with a Zhejiang Province license plate.
Shanghai traffic police said they received complaints from Radisson Blu Hotel Shanghai New World and Le Royal Meridien Shanghai that there were people pretending to be hotel staff and providing vehicle service to their customers.
The suspects also illegally picked up business from Park Hotel and Pacific Hotel.
They were recently detained by police at the Pudong International Airport.
Li was fined 5,000 yuan (US$826.5) for illegal operation, while Zhao was under further investigation for illegally soliciting customers and for pimping.
Police said Zhao speaks English and used to be a doorman at San Want Hotel Shanghai. He would get businesses for Li for which he received tips.
After being fired by the hotel last September, Zhao started to cooperate with Li more closely and went around city hotels looking for foreigners who wanted vehicles and excitement.
