2 men get prison, fines for fake Disney clothing

TWO shop owners who sold fake Disney-brand children's garments for more than 700,000 yuan (US$114,030) were given prison sentences and fines, the Yangpu District People's Court said today.

A man surnamed Wang was given a three-year sentence with a four-year reprieve and a 180,000-yuan fine for opening a children's garment shop on Qipu Road, where he sold children's garments that were counterfeits of the Disney brand.
His accomplice, surnamed Ye, was given a 30-month sentence and a 100,000-yuan fine.

Prosecutors said their sales amounted to over 700,000 yuan between March and July of last year.

When some clothes that were sold wholesale from their store to retailers were found to be fake by police, police launched an investigation.

Police searched their shop and caught Ye in July 2012 with 58 fake Disney children's clothing items. Wang came to the spot later and turned himself in.

The two owners handed over all the illegal gains during the trial.

The heaviest penalty for selling commodities with counterfeit registered trademarks is seven years in jail.
