2 stole Dior cosmetics by the truckload
TWO workers who stole Dior makeup worth at least 600,000 yuan (US$93,244) from their logistics company have each been sentenced to 10 years and six months behind bars, Shanghai No.1 Intermediate People’s Court said.
The court said that in December 2015 a driver surnamed Gu loaded a truck of Dior makeup at Pudong airport and drove to a nearby residential neighborhood instead of the company’s warehouse in the Waigaoqiao Bonded Area.
There, the company’s dispatcher, surnamed Gong, was waiting. The pair broke into the truck’s container and took more than 700 items, including lipsticks and foundation.
The theft went unnoticed and the pair repeated the process another four times before May 2016. They split the goods between themselves and Gu resold some of his to an online retailer surnamed Zhang, the court said.
However, their activities were discovered in October 2016.
As they had both pled guilty and offered compensation, the court said it had granted lighter sentences that would normally have been the case. In addition to their jail terms they were fined 13,000 yuan.
Zhang, who had bought items worth 87,000 yuan, was given a one-year jail term but granted a one-year reprieve.
