2 workers killed in chemical accident

TWO workers died after they suffered from chemical poisoning and fell into a wastewater containment pool yesterday morning, Minhang District’s work safety watchdog said.
Another worker who was trying to rescue them was also poisoned and fell into the pool. He was being treated yesterday in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber at Central Hospital in Minhang District, the authority added.
The incident happened at about 8:45am at Guofu Xinxin (Shanghai) Industrial Company’s facility at No 1525 Duhui Road.
The company, whose main business is cold-chain transportation, belongs to Guofu Group, which also owns a food processing company, Shanghai Longchu Food Company, located at the same address.
The local authority could not specify what caused the poisoning and has ordered the company to suspend operations while a special task force investigates.
