20% of clothes tested failed quality standards

MORE than a fifth of clothes at four city outlet shopping centers failed to meet quality standards during random tests.
A report issued by Shanghai Industry and Commerce Administration yesterday said the major quality problems included poor color fastness, disqualified fiber content, and nonstandard directions for use, involving brands such as Emporio Armani, Lane Crawford and Miss Sixty.
The inspections were carried out in Qingpu, Xuhui and Yangpu districts and the Pudong New Area.
Among the 110 samples of 58 brands, 23 failed the quality test, accounting for 20.9 percent of the total amount — a 4 percent decrease compared to a similar inspection last year.
The “Ports” men’s suits produced by Xiamen-based Century Ports Garment Company failed to meet the national quality standard because its colors faded easily in wet or acidic conditions. “Mind Bridge” and “Miss Sixty” garments also had color fastness problems.
“ATK” knitwear produced by Shanghai Maopai Garment Company gave false information about its fiber content and material. Coats of the South Korean brand “STCO” were found to have a firmness problem in linings, as did suits found in Emporio Armani.
The administration has suspended the sales of the disqualified products and cleared the stocks.
