25 samples of composite wood fail watchdog quality tests
More than a quarter of samples of composite wood boarding used in construction failed quality tests, the Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Administrative Bureau said yesterday.
The watchdog checked 93 batches of boarding sold across the city and found 25 to be substandard. Of these, 17 batches were found to release excessive quantities of formaldehyde. One batch of boarding sold at the Jiuxing market in Minhang District was found to contain levels of formaldehyde 9 times China’s national standard. It has the brand name “Yinma” but does not state the manufacturer.
The bureau has ordered retailers to stop selling these products until quality problems are rectified.
