3 convicted of selling medicines lose appeal
THREE men who were sent to prison last year for illegally selling pharmaceuticals have lost their appeals against the sentencing, the Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court said yesterday.
The men were part of a 12-member gang that purchased medicines covered by the health insurance system in Shanghai and sold them on at a profit to retailers in Chengdu, capital of southwest China’s Sichuan Province.
At their original trial at the Pudong New Area People’s Court in March last year, the gang was alleged to have made 2.8 million yuan (US$428,873) from their crimes. The 12 members were sentenced to prison terms of between 13 months and eight years, and three of them later filed appeals.
