3 detained on illegal drug sales charge
THREE people from Shanghai have been detained for selling prescribed drugs on the Internet, police said yesterday.
They are facing the criminal charge of illegally selling drugs.
Two of the suspects, a couple, claimed that they were prescribed the drugs at top hospitals in Shanghai for their son, Yangpu police said.
The drugs sold via WeChat were mostly for treatment of skin problems, and were said to be from hospitals including Huashan, Xinhua and Changzheng.
Police said the drugs were sold at up to twice the prices at which the drugs were prescribed.
The suspects also sold imported drugs for nose, hair, skin and eye problems, but police said the drugs on their Internet shop “shelves” were not officially approved.
The suspects are alleged to have made over 100,000 yuan (US$15,000) selling the drugs, while they didn’t possess any permit for the business.
