4 crew members rescued from sinking ship

FOUR crew members of a ship were rescued by patrol boats when their vessel started sinking yesterday afternoon in the East China Sea, Xinmin.cn reported.

The maritime department of Shanghai's Yangshan Harbor received a distress report at 2:26pm from a vessel sinking in the southern part of Yangtze Estuary Channel, with the crew in urgent need of help.

The administration sent six patrol boats to rescue the crew and broadcast repeated warnings to passing ships.

One of the patrol boats picked up all four crew members at 4:43pm and left for Xiaoyangshan Island.

The bureau posted maritime patrols on the spot and continued the cautionary VHF broadcast about the sinking vessel.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
