4 held over customer details hacking
FOUR alleged hackers have been held by police in connection with the theft of customer information from delivery companies’ websites.
According to police, one of the suspects, surnamed Zhou, hacked into the data system of a delivery company based in Qingpu District to steal order receipt information.
When the company found its customer information being sold on the Internet, it alerted police on May 29.
After a month of investigations and collecting evidence, Shanghai police held the four suspects in Xinxiang City in central China’s Henan Province, on July 4, with the help of police there.
Zhou is said to have told police that the gang has been hacking into delivery companies’ data systems since last August.
They are said to have sold receipt information through a website for up to 1 yuan (16 US cents) for each piece.
Buyers are usually owners of online shops, who need delivery order information, including receipt series number and customer information to build bogus ratings for their stores.
