4 jailed for cooking in waste oil
Four employees of a chain restaurant in Changning District were handed prison sentences for cooking in waste oil, the Changning District People’s Court ruled yesterday.
Prosecutors said the four employees who worked at the popular Xingfu 131 chain restaurant on Guyang Road, which specializes in Sichuan cuisine, collected waste oil from leftovers and cooked new dishes with it.
The head chef, surnamed Mao, asked a dishwasher, surnamed Luo, to separate oil and water from leftovers. Then two chefs, surnamed Qi and Liu stewed the oil with other materials to make it spicy.
Mao was given the heaviest 18-month jail term by the court. Qi and Liu were handed 12 and 9 months sentences respectively, while Luo got the lightest penalty — a detention of five months and 21 days.
