400 cars found with fake plates
SHANGHAI traffic police busted about 400 cases of fake license plates in the city this year.
Some of them involved smuggled luxury cars.
About 60 percent of vehicles used fake plates to get onto the city’s elevated roads during peak hours.
The rest were smuggled cars without a license or stolen vehicles, police said.
A few of the cars used genuine plates but that registered to other vehicles.
A fraudster-at-large was nabbed when he was stopped by cops in Jing’an District for using a fake license plate, while a car stealing gang was busted in Songjiang District after stolen cars were found using fake plates.
Criminals are often known to use fake car plates for committing crimes, said Xu Langang, a traffic officer.
