5 detained on drugs charges
FIVE people have been detained on suspicion of drug dealing after police confiscated more than 8 kilograms of methamphetamine.
The first suspect, surnamed Wu, was identified last June during a crackdown on the drugs trade, Shanghai police said yesterday.
Officers monitored his activity over several months and on January 9 detained a second man, surnamed Feng, who is accused of traveling to Shanghai from Guangdong to trade with Wu.
Police said they found more than 2kg of meth in Feng’s luggage.
Later the same day, police detained Wu and a third suspect, surnamed Yang, at an apartment on Huangpi Road S. in Huangpu District, where they also claim to have found 1kg of meth.
Yang is alleged to have then given police information about two other suspected drug dealers, surnamed Xu and Zhu, who were detained on January 13 at an apartment in Xuhui District.
At that property, police said they found 5,000kg of meth and more than 70,000 yuan (US$11,200) in cash.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
