5 get jail for coming to city to rob store

FIVE farmers from Jiangxi Province got prison sentences of 11 and 12 years yesterday for traveling to Shanghai to rob a telecommunication store.

Using knives and police batons, the gang grabbed four mobile phones and 3,000 yuan (US$439) cash from five employees in the store. They also took away a safe containing 48,000 yuan in cash and prepaid mobile phone and game cards valued at more than 110,000 yuan, Xuhui District People's Court heard.

Chen Xiaodong, 39, who worked in Panlong Telecommunication Store on Caobao Road, enlisted help from his home town to steal from the store.

On the early morning of December 31, Chen opened the store's roll-up door with a key he had duplicated in private. The gang members, wearing masks, rushed in and tied up the five employees, who'd been sleeping.
