5 killed in fire at e-bike shop

FIVE people were killed after a fire broke out in an electric-bike shop around 5:30am at 310 Tongnan Rd, in Baoshan District, district authorities said.
One of the deceased was identified as the owner of the shop.
No other casualties were reported apart from the five dead.
A witness who lived above the shop said he was awakened by heavy smoke.
“I rushed downstairs and picked up the fire extinguisher,” said a man identified as Yao by local media. “But there was heavy smoke preventing me from getting near the fire.”
According to Yao, the shop owner had initially escaped the fire, but rushed back inside the burning shop to rescue his family.
“They all died in the fire,” said Yao.
Some residents living nearby said there were people living in the shop.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
