6 detained over WeChat hook-up scam
SIX suspects accused of defrauding five men of 20,000 yuan (US$2,900) in a scam that involved a hook-up over WeChat have been detained, police said yesterday.
One of those detained was a woman surnamed Chen, who police said made contact with the men over WeChat and arranged a meeting.
But when the victims turned up, Chen’s boyfriend, surnamed Tao, was there and he accused them of taking advantage of her, police said.
Tao and the other four suspects threatened the victims, beat them and took cash and other valuables. Police said the case was reported on Wednesday by a tourist staying at a hotel in Waigang Town in Jiading District.
