6-month jail for stabbing

A MIGRANT who stabbed a person with a knife during a quarrel over a woman was sentenced to 6 months in jail term with a one-year reprieve, the Jing’an District People’s Court ruled yesterday.

The court ordered the man, surnamed Che, to pay the victim, who was injured in the abdomen and armpit, 58,000 yuan (US$9,570). Che and the victim, surnamed Wang, worked at a local roast duck restaurant. Both of them vied for affection of a female colleague, surnamed Zhang. On September 8, after Che and Zhang had dinner together, Wang warned Che to stay away from Zhang. As things heated up, Che stabbed Wang. While Wang was rushed to hospital, Che was detained by police.
