77,000 up for civil service exam

SOME 77,000 people across China have applied to sit this year’s national civil servant exam since applications opened on Wednesday, according to offcn.com, a website which specializes in providing exam-related information. Shanghai customs officials are recruited through this exam and these jobs are said to attract the most applicants. Last year, about 1.52 million applicants competed for around 20,000 civil service jobs through the exam. This year, 490 government departments across the country will recruit 22,248 people, an increase of 2,710 from last year. Some 80 percent of the jobs don’t require previous work experience. Applications close on October 24.
