90 school kids fall ill in Minhang
AUTHORITIES in Minhang District are investigating a local kindergarten after about 90 kids fell sick on Tuesday night, the district government said yesterday.
The district disease control center received reports about 9:30pm that several children from the Wanyuancheng Kindergarten had started vomiting.
Officials from the center, the district’s Education Bureau and Market Superviser Bureau rushed to the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University near the kindergarten, where nine children were being treated.
When the kindergarten called parents yesterday, they were told 80 more children were being treated at other hospitals for the same symptoms.
The symptoms were mild and all the children returned home yesterday.
No fresh cases were reported yesterday.
Anal swabs of children, canteen staff and childcare workers, the school’s kitchen and canteen, as well as samples of vomit, food and water have been sent for lab tests.
The government said it will release the test results as soon as possible.
The kindergarten has also taken measures, including disinfecting the whole campus, suspending food supplies from the canteen and suspending large-scale activities.
