About 17.8m suspicious call blocked last year

NEARLY 17.8 million suspicious calls, among them over 12.9 million fraud calls, had been intercepted till the end of 2017 after the Shanghai Communications Administration launched a systematic crackdown on telecom scams from May 7, 2016.
It had handed over 1,579 suspicious numbers to local police and assisted them in blacklisting 27,041 numbers.
More than 5,220 phone numbers and 1,081 phishing websites were blocked.
The administration also supported the crackdown on illegal base stations in 36 cases.
Last year, it shut down 909 websites that violated rules, including 168 gambling sites, 103 for false advertising, 42 for copyright violations and 35 porn sites.
The administration also handled three serious cyber security incidents during the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China last year, including one involving the hacking of an audio-visual system in Shanghai Zhabei No. 8 Middle School.
Last year, it took the first step on network security assessment for the Internet of Vehicles, and gave its assessments to 35 IoV online platforms and mobile applications from 16 companies for potential threats to the security in IoV services.
It also checked out 90 mobile apps from 41 Internet companies and found issues with 717 of them.
