THE Nanhui District People's Court yesterday ordered a man surnamed Chen to pay about 500,000 yuan (US$73,099) in compensation to the plasterer surnamed Zhu he hired after Zhu was paralyzed when he fell 6 meters.

Chen, who was not licensed to contract construction projects, hired Zhu and other workers to build a house in August 2007. On August 16, 2007, Zhu fell and as a result was paralyzed and suffered brain damage.
