Advice on fireworks ban spots

Fireworks are banned in parts of Shanghai during the Spring Festival this year — including some downtown areas, the main airports and railway stations, large-scale greenery and the Shanghai pilot free trade zone, local government said yesterday.

The ban is to be implemented in landmarks such as the Bund, Nanjing Road, Yuyuan Garden, People’s Square, Jing’an Temple and Lujiazui.

Residents in some downtown areas including Xujiahui, Wujiaochang and Huaihai Road are also prohibited from setting off fireworks.

Banned areas also included the city’s two airports — Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport — and the Shanghai South Railway Station, as well as some green areas and the Shanghai chemical industry park.

People outside these areas can set off fireworks over two periods in the 16-day Spring Festival: from January 30 to February 4; and from 6pm on February 14 to 8am on February 15.
