Airport: Delayed baggage returned
All the baggage that were stuck at the Pudong International Airport over the weekend because of a system malfunction have been delivered to the passengers.
The airport authority has asked the airlines to open additional temporary luggage handling facilities and add more staff at the terminal buildings to avoid similar delays again, an official with the airport said yesterday.
“The delay happened on Saturday because some domestic airlines had insufficient manpower to handle luggage during the Spring Festival travel rush,” the official said.
The airlines have apologized to the passengers and sent the luggage through next available flights, the official said.
Over 100 pieces of luggage missed the intended destination on Saturday morning at Pudong’s Terminal 1 building after the baggage handling and distribution system malfunctioned.
Some big baggage blocked the luggage transferring belt and caused the malfunction, a China Eastern Airlines official told Shanghai Daily.
The local carrier fixed the transferring belt soon and delivered the luggage on later flights, he said.
“The passengers accepted the apologies from the carrier,” he added.
The delays also affected Dalian airport in the northeast Liaoning Province where some 130 pieces were held back.
