Airport readies for jump in passengers

THE Hongqiao International Airport will have more counters for security check and improve the boarding process from today ahead of the peak Spring Festival travel this year.

The airport will forecast passenger turnovers and accordingly ensure enough security check channels for expected high traffic days, the airport authority said yesterday.

“The airport will collaborate with major Chinese airlines to issue forecast to passengers on the status of the airport every day,” an official with the airport authority said.

A large number of passengers with lots of luggage are expected to swarm to the airport during the seven-day Spring Festival holiday.

The airport will also open more parking lots at the Terminal 2 building to ensure passengers with vehicles can park without stress.

The airport has announced  the start of a night bus service that will drop passengers of late flights to People’s Square.

The bus will leave from the Terminal 2 Arrival Gate 1 for a trip to downtown. It will operate every 45 minutes, starting from 10:30pm till the last flight. It costs 16 yuan (US$2.64).
